John Olsen

John Olsen was first elected President of the state labor federation in 1988. At the time, he was serving as the AFL-CIO's Secretary-Treasurer, the second-highest ranking position in the statewide labor movement. He was most recently re-elected as AFL-CIO President in September 2005.
A native of Greenwich, CT, Olsen got his start in the labor movement as a journeyman plumber and went on to serve as President of UA Local 133, Plumbers and Pipefitters. He was elected to the Connecticut AFL-CIO Executive Board in 1983, and subsequently served as General Vice President and then as Secretary-Treasurer in 1987-88. In addition to his statewide labor leadership positions, Olsen also served as Secretary-Treasurer of the Connecticut State Building and Construction Trades Council. source
